Email to SMS
The following sections show the required message format to send SMS via the SMS gateway using the email interface.
There are 2 supported methods:
- Method 1: Using the recipient's phone number in the "to" field; or
- Method 2: Using the recipient's phone number in the "subject" field
Gateway Account and Message Authentication
- In order to be able to use the email to SMS gateway you will need to set up an account with intelliSMS. You will be provided with a user name and password. Note that your username will normally be your email address.
- For the email to authenticate the system checks for both username and password.
- Username without being otherwise defined is taken to be the "from" email address of your email message. You can also in some of the email methods put a From:[username] line in body of the email and this will override the from email address as being your username - see each method for more details.
- Password is normally put in a line in the body in the format Pass:[yourpassword] eg Pass:abc123 - some methods allow other options - they are defined in these method.
Email Body
- When you send an email to the gateway you need to include the password. This is placed in the first line of the email body. For example if you password is U78T then the first line of your email should be
Pass:U78T
- When we receive an email we check this password against the from-address of the email.
- If the password matches then we'll send up to the first 160 characters of the rest of the email as an SMS.
Phone Number Format
- A phone number contains only digits. Do not use any other characters such as - or space.
- Any number starting 04 will be assumed to be an Australian number, starting 02 will be assumed to be a New Zealand Number and 09 will be assumed an Indian number. If you want to send SMS overseas you need to start the number with the country prefix.
- For example to send an SMS to the UK (country code 44) use 44211231230
